A Cosmic Phenomenon Called Mercury in Retrograde

A Cosmic Phenomenon Called Mercury in Retrograde

For yonks now, I’ve wanted to write about an absolutely fascinating cosmic phenomenon called “Mercury in Retrograde”. Most pleasingly that window of opportunity has presented itself to me today. What is it that makes “Mercury in Retrograde” so intriguing when we heed its presence and so dame irritating when we don’t?

Besides having the potential to create real chaos in our lives, it can without question, also help provide some much welcomed cosmic guidance, clarity and validation. None more so, than when wanting to plan and implement any of those essentially important, emotive and financial stuff of life decisions.

For the most part of my life, I was misunderstood. I had endured much inner toil, this had mirrored the classic cause and effect miscommunication influences of Mercury in Retrograde. As Mercury rules Communication it has become my greatest friend and cosmic mentor. This is why I am so awe inspired by this amazing planet’s profound insights.

If This Is Ignored Calamity Can Be Assured

Without exception, as far as cosmic timing goes Mercury in Retrograde Rules. If this is ignored calamity can be assured. This encompasses all those personal and professional life changing events that our heart and soul desire. If we can only acknowledge, appreciate and respect this cosmic phenomenon, called Mercury in Retrograde our egos will nonetheless, for the most part, survive it unscathed.

And if we don’t, we could endure multiple forms of chronic, nightmarish and self- sabotaging experiences instead. Quite often, we don’t get to choose or we aren’t involved in the decision making process. Unfortunately you can’t avoid this. That’s a given dear friend; all you can do is hang on tight because it’s going to deliver one hell of ride of uncertainty.

While this may be the case, at least you are well aware of what’s really going on in advance. And if you can avoid over reacting, can maintain your sanity while everyone else is losing theirs, you might even see the humorous side to it all.

Even I Still Manage To Get Caught Out

I’ve known about affects of “Mercury in Retrograde” for about five years now. Even I still manage to get caught out. This happened when my wife Jenny and I dined out at a local restaurant during the week. As we like to swap our meals we always agree on our two preferences beforehand.

We find that this, at best enhances our overall dining experience and at worst avoids both of us being totally disappointed. Even more so, if the meal wasn’t what we expected or just didn’t deliver on the culinary delights promised.  Jenny initially selected the ‘crispy skin chicken’ but immediately changed her mind after I pointed out that the menu also included ‘crispy skin duck’.

Jenny just loves duck. On sighting the laksa soup my own taste buds became aroused. I had a choice of chicken or seafood. In keeping with the meal swapping theme, naturally I ordered the seafood laksa soup. Most interestingly, when the endearing young waitress returned to our table to take our order, she had two attentive new young male staff members in toe.

As An Ice-Breaker – I Asked In Jest

She mentioned “that they were being provided with in-house training”. While taking our order, they stood to the side and slightly behind her. She then proceeded to explain the process involved. Sensing that they were newbie’s to Thursday Island and the hospitality industry, I wanted to make them feel most welcome.

Please note that I have used the references “Chris and Waitress” for the dialogue that ensued between us. These have also been highlighted with “inverted comas and italics”.

As an ice-breaker, I asked in jest,

Chris: “will there be a test after?”

Waitress: “that’s a good idea”.

We all smiled and laughed about this. Most pleasingly it had the desired affect and helped lighten the mood. Shortly afterwards, Jenny did the honours and ordered our meals.

When the meals arrived they looked fabulous. My seafood laksa soup tasted absolutely delicious and this pleased my taste buds no end. I was enjoying it that much it wasn’t until my third or fourth mouthful that I noticed something wrong. I had been given a chicken laksa soup in error.

I mentioned this to Jenny, we both smiled and laughed at what had just occurred. It wasn’t so much that an error had been made or that after careful deliberation that we would now both be eating poultry dishes. More so, the reason for why it had occurred in the very first instance.

The Real Culprit Behind This

Human error aside, more than anything, we mused at the real culprit behind this. This was due to a commonly known cosmic condition called Mercury in Retrograde.  This usually occurs four times throughout the year.  This current Mercury in Retrograde period runs from 30 March – 23 April 2011.

More about the amazing insights on “What Does Mercury Affect” can be found at the end of this blog. When the waitress next presented at our table I mentioned the error with my order.

Chris: “I was given the wrong soup”.

Waitress: “Were you given seafood?”

Chris: “No, I wanted seafood but was given chicken”.

Being a curious critter by nature, I wondered where the error had occurred, whether this took place at our table or in the kitchen. Not that it mattered, because I truly had no judgement about this whatsoever.

Chris: “It would be interesting to see what was written down on the meal order pad”.

Waitress: “I definitely wrote down chicken because this is what was ordered. I also read back the order”.

Her absolute confidence and sincerity impressed me. For this reason I was more than happy with her explanation. As a result I couldn’t help sensing that maybe the error was ours. After all, no harm had been done. The meal was delicious nevertheless and I had no desire whatsoever to make a fuss or flex my ego.

God Only Knows, What She Must Have Been Thinking?

But the more Jenny and I discussed it, I had hoped that the waitress didn’t feel bad, or worse still, think that we were a pair of disillusioned diners that couldn’t even remember what we ordered. Wanting to correct any wrong doing, wanting to validate that we held no ill feelings about this I called the waitress over once more.  God only knows, what she must have been thinking?

A Cosmic Phenomenon Called Mercury in Retrograde

Chris “Do you know much about astrology”

Waitress: In a calm and confident voice “No, do you?”

Chris “You’re probably aware of how the full moon affects people. Well the planet called Mercury which affects all sorts of communication is currently in Retrograde. This cosmic condition is commonly referred to as Mercury in Retrograde. This includes human interaction, computers, electrical signalling etc….. It’s sort of going backwards and I believe this is the real reason for the laksa soup mix up”.

Waitress: Now feeling somewhat relieved about this. “Oh!” Brief cause “When you have a situation like in a restaurant, where someone else orders on your behalf this may help explain why some errors are made”.

Sensing that I needed to clarify this a little more I continued.

Chris: “Jenny didn’t always order as we often took turns. We also like to swap meals. Hence our desire to enjoy different meals and our preference today was crispy skin duck and seafood laksa. Although Jenny may have ordered chicken by mistake, I clearly wasn’t listening at the time because I had zoned out. As I had a very busy day at my workplace, my mind hadn’t fully disengaged yet and I was probably thinking about something else”.

The Potential For Miscommunication is Huge

Chris: “These are the classic signs, classic situations that occur during Mercury in Retrograde. The potential for miscommunication is huge. I mentioned that I work in a large organisation and see this happening amongst the staff”.

Jenny: “We’ve also been feeling the effects of Mercury in retrograde at my workplace. At times it can be very confusing and quite stressful”.

I also provided a few examples of what could happen, these were familiar to her.

Waitress: “What you’ve been saying about Mercury in Retrograde sure does explain a lot about what’s been going on with the staff for the past three weeks”.

Chris: “Most interestingly, when dining out, I may intuitively ask the wait staff to read back the order. This doesn’t happen all the time which was the case today. However as there was in-house training in progress, I had expected for the order to be voluntarily read back to us. Although you confidently claimed that you did this, I sincerely don’t recall it occurring”.

Jenny and I felt so pleased that the waitress was receptive to all of this. More so, that it may provide her with some helpful insights about how we’re all affected by this cosmic phenomenon known as Mercury is in Retrograde.

And that it may not simply be a case, of some people intentionally behaving badly, acting irresponsibly or being difficult by choice. I didn’t have the heart to tell the waitress that we would also be enduring the effects of the Full Moon as well as Mercury in Retrograde. This commences on Monday 18 April 2011.

If the high typo count of this article is anything to go by then, then things are about to get even more intriguing or even more irritating some time very soon. One of the most comical typos occurred in the following paragraph where I referred to this blog as a ‘blob’. Is it any wonder why my internal editor is absolutely frazzled?

Mercury in Retrograde – Affects Millions (15 April 2011)

When I began writing this blog on Friday 15 April something extraordinary happened. Jenny rang me to advise that they hadn’t been paid yet. This was supposed to have occurred overnight. This was due to a problem with the NAB (National Australia Bank).

This is one of the many headlines that ensured in the Australian media:

MILLIONS of National Australia Bank customers should finally be able to access money that was not available to them because of a computer glitch. Read more.

What Does Mercury affect?

Read more about “Mercury is in Retrograde” insights on Australian Astrologer Rob Tillett’s amazing website. http://www.astrologycom.com/mercret.html

These are just some of fascinating insights you’ll discover while visiting his website:

In general, Mercury rules thinking and perception, processing and disseminating information and all means of communication, commerce, education and transportation. By extension, Mercury rules people who work in these areas, especially those who work with their minds or their wits: writers and orators, consultants, commentators and critics, gossips and spin doctors, salespeople, teachers, travellers, tricksters and thieves.

Mercury also has an occult side, so healing, astrology and the transmission of spiritual knowledge are also in his area. Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains.

Mercury Is All About Metal Clarity And The Power Of The Mind

And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry. It is not exactly wise to make important decisions while Mercury is retrograde, since it is likely that such decisions will be clouded by misinformation, poor communication and careless thinking.

Mercury is all about mental clarity and the power of the mind, so when Mercury is retrograde these intellectual characteristics tend to be less acute than usual, as the critical faculties are dimmed. Make sure you pay attention to the small print!
